Welcome to South Shields Judo Club (SSJC); a new and upcoming Judo Club based at Ocean Road Community Association, South Shields.  SSJC was founded in April 2010. Coaches are: Tom Foster, a 6th Dan Coach with over 50 years experience in the Japanese discipline.  Tom is a former World Master Athlete Champion and holds International honours with the RAF and Combined Services.

Tom is supported by 3rd Dan Coach, Jill West, and her younger sister, 2nd Dan Coach, Beth Foster.  Jill and Beth have many years of experience in the sport of Judo and have managed clubs together in the past. Jill began the sport whilst at school, thinking it would be an easier alternative to cross country – she was in for a shock!  After watching her older sister compete, Beth could not wait to start the sport and, at the tender age of seven, was finally allowed to step onto the Judo mat.

Newly qualified coach Ross Tyler, 1st Kyu, is welcomed to the coaching team. Ross is a qualified Time-Keeper & volunteers at the Judo club on a weekly basis.
